Guy Savoy

Guy Savoy is a French chef. He was born on 24 July 1953 in Nevers.

He inherited his passion from his parents, who ran the L’Esplanade restaurant in Bourgoin-Jallieu in Isère, when he was a child. In 1969, at the age of 16, Guy Savoy began his apprenticeship as a master chocolatier with Louis Marchand in Bourgoin-Jallieu. In 1970, he continued with a three-year apprenticeship with the Troigros brothers in Roanne. During this time, he became friends with Bernard Loiseau. Guy Savoy continued his apprenticeship in the 1970s, between Paris, the Côte d’Azur and Switzerland.

His career really took off in 1977. He became head chef at the La Barrière restaurant in Clichy, owned by Claude Verger. Guy Savoy took over from Bernard Loiseau, who had left for another restaurant. In 1980, Guy Savoy opened his first restaurant in Paris. He was soon awarded a Michelin star (in 1981) and then a second (in 1985). In 1987, he moved to a restaurant a stone’s throw from the Champs-Élysées, which he named Restaurant Guy Savoy. He also had several bistrots-restaurants in Paris, which he opened between the end of the 1980s and the end of the 1990s.

His many awards include a third Michelin star in 2002, the Légion d’Honneur in 2008 and the Prix du Rayonnement Gastronomique Français in 2018. In November 2021, the La Liste ranking proclaimed his Paris establishment to be one of the best restaurants in France.
