Fallen Angels

A moment suspended between faith and surrender, between transcendence and sacrifice. Blind Devotion stands as one of Jaroslav’s most powerful masterpieces, capturing an angelic figure in a state of total submission, where ascension becomes both ecstasy and supplication.

Here, the angel surrenders entirely to an unseen force, head lifted, arms reaching towards the heavens in an act of absolute devotion. The milk cascades over her like a divine blessing or the mark of an accepted suffering, blurring the boundary between grace and martyrdom. Her body, sculpted by light and frozen splashes, exudes a mystical sensuality, reminiscent of the great religious depictions of spiritual ecstasy.

The wings, grand and fully unfurled, appear to dissolve at the edges, as if the act of faith also required self-erasure. Jaroslav masterfully plays with this duality: milk becomes flesh, matter becomes light, movement becomes eternity.

Through this piece, the artist questions the essence of devotion, blind faith, and the cost of transcendence. Is this an act of liberation or renunciation? An offering or the dissolution of self? Blind Devotion does not provide an answer; instead, it imposes a vertigo, a doubt, a shiver of awe in the face of the power of faith and surrender.

Fallen Angels

Fallen Angels

Few photographic series capture both profound suffering and artistic transcendence as powerfully as Fallen Angels by Jaroslav Wieczorkiewicz. Blending fine art, mythology, and high-speed photography, this evocative work explores grief, trauma, and resilience through a unique visual language.

Inspired by personal loss—his mother’s cancer, his father’s depression, and a miscarriage within a year—Fallen Angels is a cathartic expression, externalizing sorrow while inviting viewers to confront their own experiences. Wieczorkiewicz sculpts suffering into form, using his signature technique of photographing splashes of milk and paint in motion. These fluid, ephemeral wings symbolize the fragile balance between celestial grace and human fragility.

Technically ambitious, the series combines high-speed photography with advanced digital compositing, layering hundreds of images into each composition. Beyond its striking aesthetic, Fallen Angels is a meditation on resilience, portraying figures caught between flight and descent, seeking light amid darkness.

Acclaimed for its originality, the series cements Wieczorkiewicz’s status as a pioneer in liquid photography, transforming the ephemeral into the eternal.
