Making-Off
Freedom Unveiled (Liberté dévoilée) boldly revisits the legacy of Delacroix’s iconic “Liberty Leading the People,” placing it in a distinctly contemporary setting. At the center of the scene, a black-clad female figure reveals her silhouette as she raises a veil in place of a flag, embodying a new form of rebellion. All around her, urban chaos unfolds: destruction, barbed wire, and graffiti-scarred walls paint a stark picture of societies plagued by violence and exclusion.
In this dramatic composition, each character represents an individual yet universal struggle: the pursuit of freedom, the resilience in the face of fear, and the call for human dignity. Scattered media screens on the ground suggest an onslaught of overwhelming information, while the black veil simultaneously evokes oppression and emancipation. The figures’ poses hint at an ongoing uprising, a surge of courage in a world where many voices remain stifled. With this unflinching portrayal, Gérard Rancinan offers a stark reflection of a society in crisis, asking the viewer: what kind of awakening must humanity still undergo to achieve true freedom?
Métamorphosis
The Métamorphoses collection by Gérard Rancinan is a powerful reflection on transformation, both societal and individual. Through grandiose, meticulously staged compositions, Rancinan delves into themes of human evolution, identity, and the upheaval of norms in contemporary culture. True to his style, he blends theatricality and symbolism, creating intense visual narratives that provoke thought on the constant metamorphoses of our society.
Each photograph in the series challenges social myths, political tensions, and existential questions, making Métamorphoses not only a striking aesthetic journey but also an incisive critique of humanity in perpetual change.
