My Life On The Web – Gérard Rancinan
In My Life On The Web, Gérard Rancinan delivers a striking and unsettling portrayal of a world where the boundary between intimacy and exhibitionism has dissolved under the insatiable gaze of screens. As part of his Trilogy of the Moderns series, this work critically examines hyperconnectivity, the commodification of the body, and the loss of personal identity in an era driven by the relentless pursuit of visibility.
Set in a decadent motel room, naked bodies intertwine, film, and photograph themselves, trapped in a performative spectacle where reality and self-representation merge. Each character seems absorbed in their own digital projection, detached from the present moment, creating a scene that is both voyeuristic and tragic. The blindfolds worn by several figures emphasize the idea of a society blinded by its own reflection, enslaved by the cult of the image and the need for external validation.
Scattered objects—screens, outdated televisions, laptops, photographs—highlight the omnipresence of digital technology and how it shapes our interactions. The composition, reminiscent of grand Baroque paintings, amplifies the chaos and excess, illustrating a society where privacy has been transformed into spectacle, where experiences are commodified, and where life is lived more through screens than in reality.
Rancinan does not merely critique but forces us to confront a brutal mirror, questioning our own relationship with self-image and the virtualization of existence. My Life On The Web is a contemporary fresco of ultramodern loneliness, a sharp reflection on the dissolution of boundaries between private and public spheres, where individuals become both actors and spectators of their own digitized lives.
Métamorphosis
The Métamorphoses collection by Gérard Rancinan is a powerful reflection on transformation, both societal and individual. Through grandiose, meticulously staged compositions, Rancinan delves into themes of human evolution, identity, and the upheaval of norms in contemporary culture. True to his style, he blends theatricality and symbolism, creating intense visual narratives that provoke thought on the constant metamorphoses of our society.
Each photograph in the series challenges social myths, political tensions, and existential questions, making Métamorphoses not only a striking aesthetic journey but also an incisive critique of humanity in perpetual change.
