TRIBUTE
Yesterday, Monday, January 16, the world lost an iconic figure of cinema and art. David Lynch, filmmaker, visual artist, and visionary, passed away, leaving behind an unmatched legacy. At Galerie Idan Wizen, we wish to pay tribute to this extraordinary man whose work has deeply influenced not only cinema but also my own vision as an artist and gallery owner.

EXHIBITION
“Splash” is an ambitious exhibition dedicated to the provocative and subversive work of Gérard Rancinan, a choice I made to share a singular vision of contemporary art. For decades, Rancinan has examined the upheavals of our society, the major issues of our time, and the struggles of his contemporaries through his sharp, spectacular eye. His striking works showcase the contrasts between light and shadow, revealing both the flaws and strengths of humanity. He explores the profound duality of Man – this ordinary being, filled with dreams and contradictions, always searching for meaning. His powerful, intense photographs confront our gaze, questioning our values and aspirations. They bear witness to a society in perpetual change, with each image embodying a mirror reflecting our hopes, anxieties, and shared humanity.

Anna Laza, an influential visual artist in the field of art photography, weaves a tapestry of innovative styles through her lens. Her projects delve deeply into the realms of shooting and post-production, creating a unique fusion of technique and emotion. Acclaimed internationally, her work has not only been exhibited worldwide but has also won numerous prestigious awards, including honors at renowned competitions such as LensCulture.
Anna's art finds its place in the pages of esteemed photography magazines, and her keen eye is often sought for inclusion in prestigious juries at photographic events. Beyond her personal creations, Anna is the visionary behind FotoSlovo, a magazine dedicated to discovering and celebrating emerging talents in photography each year.
Her project "Story of Love" is a poetic exploration of the silent eloquence of human hands, expressed through the timeless medium of black-and-white photography. Here, hands become the sole protagonists, with each gesture revealing a chapter in the intricate tapestry of human emotions and relationships. In this collection, Anna captures the raw and tactile essence of emotions—affection, trust, unity, and even anger. Each photograph is a narrative in itself, depicting the universal story of human connection through the language of physical touch.
"Story of Love" is a celebration of the timeless bonds that unite us all, capturing the universal language of touch in its purest and most expressive form. Through her lens, Anna Laza invites us to witness the profound beauty and complexity of human interaction, offering a glimpse into this silent yet eloquent language that speaks volumes about our shared humanity.
Justine Darmon was born in Paris in 1973 and discovered her passion for film photography in 1990 when her parents gifted her a Nikon FE and her grandmother passed down her old Rolleiflex. Quickly enchanted by the magic of the darkroom, she dreamed of pursuing photography professionally, but her family humorously encouraged her to follow a different path, saying, “You're not serious when you're 17…”.
After completing advanced studies in Social Policy and Society, Justine Darmon embarked on a career in Human Resources, specializing in managing human crises. Behind the masks, she learned to capture authentic emotions, revealing the true nature of individuals.
In 2015, she finally decided to pursue her passion fully and dedicated herself entirely to art photography. In less than ten years, her works have been exhibited in various galleries and festivals through remarkable collections such as "Music’Spirits," "Ambivalences," "Le Clown et la Danseuse," "Eclipse," "Cuba, Beyond Colors," "Les Lames de l’Âme," and "Sortir de son ombre."
Justine Darmon's work explores a dreamlike universe, rich in symbols and references to collective memory. Inspired by the fairy tales and legends of her childhood, Renaissance and ancient painters, as well as humanist photographers and digital artists, she creates a gateway to her own dreams.
Through a subtle interplay of textures, shadows, and lights, Justine Darmon highlights the timeless and mysterious nature of her photographs. She encourages viewers to freely interpret her images, exploring their ambivalence and symbolic richness. Her interest particularly focuses on religious and mystical phenomena as collective reflections of society’s hopes and fears.
Gérard Rancinan is a major figure in contemporary photography whose work transcends the bounds of mere images, engaging in an ongoing dialogue with society. Born in 1953, he began his career as a photojournalist before shifting towards a more artistic approach in the 1990s. His works, exhibited in prestigious museums and galleries worldwide, such as the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, the Milan Triennale, and the Shanghai Himalayas Museum, are recognized for their monumental aesthetics and critical engagement.
Rancinan uses photography to question the excesses and contradictions of contemporary society. His style is marked by meticulous staging, which, combined with a narrative dimension, depicts a world where modern myths, social tensions, and cultural transgressions collide. His series, such as La Trilogie des Modernes and Métamorphoses, have received wide acclaim, and he has won numerous prestigious awards, including several World Press Photo awards.
As a true "awakened witness to the transformations of our Humanity," Rancinan is also one of the most highly-rated French photographers at auction, with works reaching record prices, especially in sales in London and Paris. In 2014, he was ranked among the most influential visual artists worldwide.
His approach does not simply capture the moment; it transcends it to reveal disturbing truths about our era, making his work both profoundly artistic and intellectually subversive.
